Bryan is one of the favourites from Masterchef Australia 2017. When one of his actual friends pulled out of the test kitchen event and we were invited along, we were happy to attend - we have no shame.
As you can see from the descriptors, Bryan has packed a whole lot of flavour and technique into each course. Some of the flavours were probably too subtle for our jaded taste buds and some dishes have so many elements you could miss some of the techniques.
There is some development still happening before the first official dinner so we're looking forward to see what this up and coming Chef will deliver. It was already better than some of the restaurants we've eaten at to date e.g Pei Modern
Overall it was a promising display, good enough to convince us to go back for the real event.
Yuzu was a good start to the event, a twist on lemon meringue pie and the dish that won Bryan as spot on Masterchef
Breakfast in Hong Kong has potential to be a winner. There's some development that Bryan's doing so we will see what the end product is like in a couple of weeks.
Pina Colada - tasted like Pina Colada. There was some technique going on in there but we forgot to ask him what he did.
Hot 'n' Cold Tom Yum - Bryan's "second chance" dish. This is a winner, we recommended changing the name to a different Thai dish but we don't think he'll change it.
Under the Coco - there was an issue so it came out looking like bird poo (Bryan's description not ours). It'll be fixed for the real event.
Disclaimer: This was a discounted meal.
We usually eat anonymously and even though some people are crazy enough to invite us to free/discounted food, this is the first free/discounted food offer we've taken up. Although we're going to the actual event so...we're going to end up paying for a regular ticket anyway.
Zomato rating is not for Bryan's pop up but we need to link this post to the venue in Zomato somehow.
