Price: Cheap/Cheap but not too Cheap
Amy Ruth's seems to be a possible contender for the best Soul food in New York. Past patrons include Presidents Clinton and Bush (the second one), Martin Luther King III and Alicia Keys.
We had waffles and chicken (white meat ie breast/wing), ribs choosing sides of collard greens and fried okra and a sweet potato pie (against recommendations to get the peach cobbler but dessert was to go and cobblers should be warmed).
We'd say good but inconsistent.
The chicken was rather dry in parts but excellent towards the wing (yes breast meat tends to be drier but still). The ribs were similar, dry and overcooked in some sections, awesome in others.
Greens were greens and okra was good.
Sweet potato pie was ok but slightly sweet and sticky for our liking. Should have ordered the Peach Cobbler.
Authentic, relatively cheap and overall pretty good.
